Summer is around the corner, and that means tons of sunshine, longer days, mimosas and martinis, flowy maxi skirts, and angelic glowy dewy skin. But how to get that glow without a caked-up face? As South Asian women, we still want to hide our dark circles, those pigmented scars on chin, and that uneven tone. Can we achieve a flawless, dewy, and glowy skin that makes us feel like angels in those upcoming golden hours? The answer is, of course, yes. The key is to use cream-based light to medium coverage products and let your natural skin shine through.
- Pores No Pores Lumizer Primer by Dr. Brandt Skincare:
First things first. Summer also means sweating which may lead to clogged pores and acne. Most women experience sweaty T-zone. You need a primer to control that extra oil, and to ensure your makeup doesn’t melt like an ice-cream in the sun. This primer is pretty amazing for all skin types and can be used during the day or night time. It also gives a subtle sheen while blurring your pores and texture, giving a perfect base for the desired glowy look. Best way is to apply with fingers for an even distribution.
- Fit Me Dewy + Smooth Foundation by Maybelline:
Confession time: I use this foundation all year round! This is my holy grail and I absolutely love this foundation. It provides light to medium coverage and is buildable for full coverage as well. Note that small amount goes a long way. For a refreshing dewy look, apply a small amount and blend it with a damp sponge. Usually one layer should do the job but if you feel you need more coverage, apply as needed. It is super light and easily blendable and it does not give you the cakey feeling. It also gives SPF protection which is always a plus.
- Fit Me Concealer by Maybelline:
This creamy concealer works like magic on pigmented areas. It provides enough coverage and glides like butter on skin. Apply under eyes, acne scars and anywhere you need a bit of more coverage that foundation couldn’t cover. Make sure to get the color only one shade lighter than your foundation, otherwise you are under the risk of creating racoon eyes. Little goes a long way, hence start with small quantity and blend with a damp sponge.
- Cream Blush by Elizabeth Arden:
Bring some color to your cheeks using this very buttery cream blush. I find the best and easiest way to apply is with your middle and ring finger. Start from the apples of your cheeks and swipe gently in upward motion up to your hairline. Avoid applying past your smile line or toward the center of your face. The best thing about cream blush is that you can never apply too much. If you feel you picked a lot of product on your fingers, keep dabbing and blending it until desired color is reached.
- Ambient strobe lighting powder by Hourglass:
To avoid a major mortifying meltdown of your makeup and self-dignity in front of your boyfriend and girlfriends, you must set your makeup. Now because you are trying to achieve a glowy look and not matte look, you can use a light weight shimmery powder in lieu of a traditional translucent setting powder. This one by hourglass does a perfect job in setting and brightening the base. Dab this powder sparingly with a fluffy brush on your T-zone only, which means your under-eyes, center of forehead, nose, and chin. And voila! Your angelic look is almost complete.
- High Beam Liquid Highlighter by Benefit Cosmetics:
Highlighter is probably the most important ingredient to achieve a fresh glowy look. This liquid highlighter works like a fairy dust for the desired look. The best way to apply is with fingers. Apply on all your high-points of the face. On your cheek bones, swipe with the given brush up to your hairline and dab with your ring finger to blend it. Also apply it on the browbone, nose tip and bridge, cupid’s bow, and chin. Feel free to layer up to create an illuminating effect.
Now you have officially gained the knowledge on how to create magic and bring out that angelic glow on your face. Go ahead, follow these steps, and bask in your own glow this summer.
